The 421 class were essentially a follow-on from the 42 class, with
the main difference being that the 421 class included a second cab, at
the rear
of the loco. Like the 42 class, most of their work was on mainline
passenger
and freight services. Half of the class have been sold to the Northern
Rivers Railroad. 42106 was
to
be fitted with a gas turbine at one stage; however this did not go
ahead.
Northern

These locos were used for most
of NRR's operations. They were sold to QR Interail to become their 421
class.
